Meet Spiffy's Characters

Spiffy Grass Hopper

A young grasshopper bursting with energy, Spiffy is the entertaining link between children’s real lives and the magical world of Spiffy’s Once Upon a Farm™. A little absentminded, he’s often running in many directions at once, relying on his young audience to help him find misplaced things and solve his dilemmas. His impetuous, inquisitive nature is balanced by a good heart and a true desire to ‘do the right thing’ most of the time. Whether he’s leading a game of hide-and-seek, a cooking class, or a lively chorus of Take Me Out to the Ballgame, Spiffy is a character kids instantly recognize as one of their own.

Bugsy Beetle

The villain kids love to hate Bugsy’s main goal in life is to take over The Fitness Farm. Puffing cigars and gobbling candy bars. Bugsy’s always at work on a shady deal. He zips around in his noisy Bugmobile a gas guzzling, fume-spouting contraption that, with the press of a switch, unfolds wings to convert into an airplane. Bugsy’s no-so-bright accomplice, Fred Worm, often tries to help, but creates situations that humorously backfire.

The Bananaettes

High-kicking their way into health, the Bananettes bring an up-tempo beat to the Once Upon A Farm frolics. With chorus line unity, they playfully echo the new things being taught by the other characters. Their sweet repetition makes learning a fun, definitely repeatable experience.

The Singing Carrot Sisters

Belting out catchy tunes for the kids to sing along to, the Singing Carrot Sisters make learning memorable and fun. They lead kids in rhyme, rounds, dance, sing-song, even scat with an Andrews Sisters tempo and flair.

Mom and the Carpool Kids

All the magical creatures at the Farm are ready to welcome a minivan full of neighborhood kids. The Farm friends can’t wait to share games, exercises, sports, and all kinds of activities that get children moving, laughing, and having fun together.

Nana

Swathed in beautiful cabbage green, this grandmother has an eye for color and an appreciation for art. On balmy days, you’ll find Nana outside, where she leads painting classes for kids. And on rainy days, look for her in the Visitor’s Center Art Complex, where she’ll be showing them the finer points of pottery making and ceramics. Indoors or out, a visit with Nana always leaves children creatively inspired.

Pops

The wise senior squash of the garden, Pops entertains kids with his grandfatherly warmth and gentle humor. Blessed by a unique perspective brought by living through many seasons on the Farm, Pops happily answers children’s questions, teases them with riddles, quotes poetry, and always has time for a favorite story.

The Celery Twins

Pump for action in glorious green, the engaging Celery Twins are the ultimate coach and personal trainer. With irrepressible good humor, these two fun-loving “big kids at heart” know just how to get children up and out of their seats, stretching, bending, and jumping right into the middle of everything.

Peas in a Pod

“Born to golf” is their slogan, and any patch of green will do. There you’ll find the eight peas busily yelling “fore”, teeing off, and tallying scores. Excellent mathematicians, they always wind up playing counting and number games that interest the youngest child and intrigue the oldest. Within just a round or two, they can turn an eighteen-hole golf course into the perfect children’s playground for mathematics.

Duke the Cuke

The surest sound of Spring is “Play ball’, and nobody opens the Season like Duke. A Southpaw big hitter, Duke thrills kids with his Super Veggie Curve Balls, and his chili pepper hot slams outta the park. Can we learn to pitch and bat like you? kids eagerly ask. Sure, drawls Duke with his homegrown charm. And did I ever tell you about the time I played against Derek Jeter?

Charlie Corn

Tennis is his game and he wants it to be yours. There was never a more earnest young tennis pro than Charlie Corn. His sunny disposition gets even the sleepiest child up early and out on the courts to volley. Charlie can’t resist popping off with his stock of delightfully corny jokes, puns, and word plays –leaving his students chuckling through until the game's end.

The Salad Kids

As sure as a tomato is red, you’ll find Tomas convincing the other Salad Kids to get mixed up in a fresh, new scheme. Mellow Slim Scallion, with his street smarts, takes a moment from his music to figure out how to really get the job done. Luis Lettuce, ever ready with a book he’s readying, adds twists and possibilities to their plot. Exuberant Rosie Radish is the first to leap ahead in her ballet slippers, and gets their situation moving ahead at staccato speed.

Bobbi Broccoli & Sly Spinach

Boisterous Bobbi Broccoli and Sly Spinach can’t wait to show everyone the marvelous power of green. Bobbi is a young Olympic hopeful, leading kids and sometimes their parents, through exciting gymnastic routines. Her buddy Sly is an inspired natural athlete, who attempts to excel at every neighborhood sport available, including his favorite, skateboarding. Both Boob and Sly enjoy their activities so much, they’re always ready to teach their games to potential new playmates.

The Fruit Group

Sweet-talking Georgia Peach is the self-appointed Ms. Manners of the Farm, spouting her Rules For Polite Children That are too hysterically funny to ignore. Ming Ling Plum, with her pet butterfly, brings serene words of wisdom to calm potential misunderstandings between characters. Suzie Strawberry, frumpy and caring, receives hundreds of letters weekly from kids who appreciate her warm acceptance. The little squirts Leo Lemon and Lenny Lime, roll onto the scene with giggles and jokes that add a zing to any situation.
